THE A.C.T. OF BIOFEEDBACK: FLEXIBILITY WEBINAR RECORDING

Presenter: Yossi Ehrenreich, Ph.D

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is based upon the new behavioral science (RFT) and the contemplative practices: Mindfulness, Acceptance, and Compassion. ACT is designed to achieve health improvement through accomplishing psychological flexibility. Psychological flexibility is a comprehensive concept which comprises self-regulation and apparently related to cardiac vagal control. ACT matrix model of coaching and treatment has been formulated by Kevin Polk (2011, 2014). The model consists of 6 training steps. Each step introduces basic ACT concept in plain language. Concepts such as self as context, Me as context, Observing Me, Acceptance, cognitive diffusion have pragmatic meaning and are interpreted to committed actions. Interweaved with Biofeedback it creates an experiential framework of therapy and coaching. The webinar will introduce a systematic way of integrating BF and ACT based on the ACT matrix training protocol. Examples will be given from various fields such as anger and financial management to show the effectiveness of the model.

All views expressed in the recording are solely those of the presenters and participants.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this webinar, the learner will be able to:
1) Describe the concept of psychological flexibility and its relation to Biofeedback practice;
2) Explain the ACT matrix model for coaching and therapy;
3) Identify elements in the relational frame theory (RFT) and Mindfulness that are consistent with use of biofeedback within the ACT matrix model for coaching and therapy;
4) Design biofeedback training sessions integrating the ACT matrix model.
