BIOFEEDBACK STRATEGIES

ONLINE CLASS RECORDING

The BFE receives a large amount of correspondence from health practitioners just getting started with clinical biofeedback. It's quite common for clinicians new to measuring psychophysiology with biofeedback equipment to have questions similar to the ones shown below:

"How should my client sit when recording the assessment profile?"
"How do I get my client to avoid creating artifacts?"
"What is the best way to structure a biofeedback training session?"
"What conclusions can I make from this stress profile?"

Anyone can learn the principles of biofeedback, but many theoretical courses do not get into the tips and tricks of the trade for organizing a therapeutic session, measuring good data, successfully making use of your biofeedback equipment, and coach their patient.

In these four 1.5-hours online class recordings, Linda Walker, MHR, LPC shares her biofeedback strategies of success so that any clinician can improve their therapeutic method and attain better results with their clients. Included in this recording package are two additional 10-minute videos of Linda's assessment preparation of a biofeedback recording session with a client: one of the pre-assessment setup, and the other during the running of the assessment. These recordings also come with Linda's checklist document of reminders for recording and interpreting a psychophysiological protocol.

Note: Linda uses the standard Thought Technology and Biograph Infiniti software as her reference point for recording and review data.

Class Content

Lesson 1 - Review of the major psychophysiological signals, waveforms, and theirs general norms, all from the perspective of data in a stress profile. The signals discussed include muscle tension, skin conductance, temperature, heart rate, and respiration.

Lesson 2 - Linda discusses the coaching of a successful respiration training session. This includes evaluating the client's resonant frequency to determine their optimal breathing rate for maximizing heart rate variability (HRV).

Lesson 3 - Concepts of surface electromyography (sEMG) for assessing muscle pain, with specific discussion of lower back pain, upper trapezius asymmetry, headaches and fibromyalgia.

Lesson 4 - This lesson focuses on temperature training in biofeedback, successive training goals, how to structure the session, and biofeedback-assisted relaxation. The end of this lesson also discusses general tips.

All views expressed in the recording are solely those of the presenters and participants.
