THE POWER OF IMAGERY FOR

IMPROVING THERAPY

HOME-STUDY BUNDLE

APA Continuing Education (CE) Credits granted: 3

This 3-recording home-study bundle discusses three imagery techniques that both integrate and improve a patient's therapeutic success. This home-study bundle is appropriate for psychologists, doctors, therapists and any clinicians currently using or interested in the use of hypnosis & biofeedback for trauma survivors, imagery for an integrative medicine treatment of cancer, and/or mindfulness & biofeedback with their clients in a therapeutic setting. No prior knowledge any of these techniques is required, however individuals with a novice to intermediate experience with any of these methods can still greatly benefit from this package.

The three recordings included in this home-study package are:

Mindfulness and Biofeedback Recording

Heart Rate Variability Biofeedback & Hypnosis for Trauma Webinar Recording

Cancer and Integrative Medicine Recording

At the conclusion of these three home-study recordings, participants will be able to:

- Identify how heart rate variability training facilitates improvement in a hypnosis session and accelerate the counselling process;

- Recognize the difference between the myths and realities of hypnosis and hypnotic trances;

- Understand how the use of imagery for a cancer patient can be predictive of the likelihood of remission.

- Direct and score a cancer imagery exercise.

- Identify how a mindfulness and acceptance approach to therapy can facilitate progress in cases where biofeedback has difficulty.

HRV & HYPNOSIS FOR TRAUMA WEBINAR RECORDING

This 1-hour webinar recording introduces how heart rate variability (HRV) biofeedback and hypnosis can be used with clients to heal trauma. The presentation describes how HRV biofeedback is performed via slow, relaxed breathing with the goal of maximizing the difference in heart rate from inhalation to exhalation. Attendees of the session learn how the biofeedback aspects of the intervention seamlessly integrate into the hypnotic induction method, and ultimately lead to accelerated patient progress over the treatment period.

The session presenters are:
Sue Intemann is a licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), board certified and an associate fellow in biofeedback (BCB), and a certified clinical trauma professional (CCTP); and
Maggie Minsk is a licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a nationally certified counselor (NCC), a certified instructor (CI), and a certified hypnotherapist.

MINDFULNESS AND BIOFEEDBACK WEBINAR RECORDING

Difficult feelings, such as anxiety, sadness, and pain are natural and human and, therefore, normal. And yet, so many of us spend much of our time fighting with our feelings in an attempt to get rid of them. We put tremendous effort toward getting control of our feelings. But as we notice over and over again, it is not possible to control how we feel. So, as a result we end up getting stuck in a futile fight that creates more anxiety, more sadness and more pain. What we need to do is learn to respond to our feelings differently, rather than trying to stop having them.

Mindfulness and biofeedback both offer helpful ways to respond to difficult emotions and physical pain. Mindfulness enables one to pause long enough to choose a response appropriate to the moment. Skills learned through biofeedback are a large part of that chosen response.

In this one-hour webinar recording, Dr. Inna Khazan introduces the concept of mindfulness, and outlines the applications of mindfulness-based skills with biofeedback. The end of the session includes a relaxation induction based on mindfulness principles.

CANCER AND INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE RECORDING

In this 1- hour session recording, Dr. Robert E. McCarthy gives a detailed review and description of the psychophysiological model of cancer growth and regression, disease dimensions, scoring, and imagery exercises that facilitate increased positive responses to cancer treatment. Client examples of imagery are shown to facilitate understanding of good and bad imagery. Part of this presentation includes an introduction to the contemporary view of integrative medicine and the human body, and key works in the field.
