Surface electromyography is a non-invasive technique used for for swallowing muscle re-education and training This class provides an overview of dysphagia and the most common sEMG training strategies used for its treatment with sEMG biofeedback instrumentation. The 6-hour real-time online class introduces the use of the sEMG equipment, covers the background required to choose appropriate candidates for biofeedback and goes into some detail on the use of the sEMG equipment. In lecture 1, Dr. Steele’s describes the scientific theory and evidence behind her SEMG for Dysphagia methods.  Lecture 2 takes participants through equipment setup and recordings. Lecture 3 covers recordings and things to watch out for. Lecture 4 includes case presentations of typical sessions.
